Tiger Woods announced on Tuesday that his mother, Kultida Woods, has passed away at the age of 81. He shared the sad news with an X post.

“It is with heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my dear mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning. My Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable. She was quick with the needle and a laugh. She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible. She was loved by so many,  but especially by her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie. Thank you all for your support, prayers and privacy at this difficult time for me and my family. Love you Mom.”

According to NBC Sports, Kultida was spotted attending Tiger Woods’ TGL match in South Florida last week.

She was married to Tiger’s father, Earl, for 37 years until his passing in May 2006. While Earl served as a soldier, Tiger often described his mother as the “enforcer” during his upbringing. The couple met while Earl was stationed in Thailand for The U.S. Army.

Kultida was a steadfast supporter of her son, both on and off the golf course. She attended Tiger’s induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2022 alongside her grandchildren, Sam Alexis and Charlie Axel. Known for her signature oversized black glasses and visor, she was frequently spotted on the fairway, cheering him on, per PEOPLE.

Tiger Woods is one of the most successful and influential golfers in history. Born on December 30, 1975, in Cypress, California, he showed exceptional talent from a young age, becoming a child prodigy in golf. He turned professional in 1996 and quickly dominated the sport, winning his first major, the Masters, in 1997 at just 21 years old. His victory, by a record 12 strokes, revolutionized the game and made him an international icon.

Over his career, Woods has won 15 major championships, second only to Jack Nicklaus, and has held the world No. 1 ranking for a record number of weeks. His impact extended beyond the course, making golf more diverse and appealing to a broader audience.

Despite his success, Woods has faced significant challenges, including multiple injuries, personal scandals, and a near-fatal car accident in 2021. However, his resilience was evident in his remarkable 2019 Masters win, one of the greatest comebacks in sports history.
