Actress Known For Her Roles In ‘The Crown’ And ‘The Windsors’ Dies At 66

New York Post

Actress Haydn Gwynne may be better known for the role she played on the comedy series about the British royal family, “The Windsors.” Gwynne appeared on 20 episodes of the series portraying the role of Queen Camilla, the wife of King Charles.

While her role on “The Windsors” may be her best known role, she also acted on a variety of other TV shows and movies including “The Crown,” “Rome” and “Drop the Dead Donkey.”

Now Gwynne’s agent has announced the sad news that Gwynne has died. Her cause of death was cancer. She was 66 years old.

According to a statement shared with Variety, Gwynne’s agent explained, “It is with great sadness we are sharing with you that, following her recent diagnosis with cancer, the star of stage and screen Haydn Gwynne died in hospital in the small hours of Friday 20 October, surrounded by her beloved sons, close family and friends.” The statement continues, “We would like to thank the staff and teams at the Royal Marsden and Brompton Hospitals for their wonderful care over the last few weeks.”

Upon hearing the news of Gwynne’s death, Channel 4, who is responsible for broadcasting “The Windsors,” shared a tritute to Gwynne, explaining, “Haydn was a force of nature both on-and-off screen. An incredible comic actor who always found the perfect balance of caricature and intensity, of lightness and darkness. She was an amazing person to be around, passionate, impressive and inspiring. From ‘The Windsors’ to ‘Drop The Dead Donkey,’ we are privileged to have worked with Haydn at Channel 4. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones at this time.”

Prior to Gwynne’s death, she was scheduled to perform in an upcoming London production of Stephen Sondheim’s “Old Friends;” however, in September, she announced that she was not going to perform in the production after all. At the time, the only reason she gave was “personal reasons.”

Gwynne is survived by her husband, Jason Phipps, and their two sons.
