Chris Harrison started hosting “The Bachelor” and spinoffs of the show back in 2002. In 2021, he decided to leave the show, and he has since spoken out about a toxic environment at the show.
In an interview with Deadline, Harrison claimed that he considered the show “a blessing,” and that it was difficult to leave the show at first; however, he doesn’t regret the decision. He explained, “It was hard at first. Obviously, it wasn’t immediate that I felt great about everything because what I went through was tumultuous. I don’t wish it on anybody.”
Harrison added, “It was horrifying on a lot of levels and something that I pray to God my worst enemy never goes through. But, with that said, I knew I had to remove myself from what became a very toxic situation.”
While Harrison is “grateful” for the show, he is also glad that he’s no longer a part of it. He said, “Financially, of course. It changed my life. It changed my kids’ lives. But at the same time, I can also be grateful that I’m gone. That’s a relationship I don’t need to be in anymore because it wasn’t healthy.”
Harrison’s exit took place when the show had it’s very first Black bachelor; however, there was also controversy when it was discovered that one of the contestants, Rachael Kirkconnell, had attended an antebellum-themed party in 2018 when she was in college – and Harrison defended her.
Back in 2021, after existing “The Bachelor,” Harrison talked to Good Morning America about his exist from the show. At the time, he called it “a mistake.” He explained that he felt defending Kirkconnell was “a mistake.” He added, “I am incredibly sorry.”
At the time, Harrison believed he would “be back” hosting “The Bachelor.” Now, it appears that he no longer wishes to return to the show. In fact, when he talked to Deadline, he claimed that he would not want to go back to hosting the show.
