Target is Selling ‘Harry Potter’ Sorting Hats That Sing and Dance

Calling all Harry Potter fans! Get ready to raise your elder wands because Target is giving you another magical reason to set foot inside their stores. They are now carrying the Sorting Hat for your enjoyment.

Now, all you budding wizards can hold your own Hogwarts-type ceremony with one of these in hand. The hats talk and move in the same manner as the movie version, bringing the experience to life for you for $24.99.

Much like the Harry Potter movies’ Sorting Hat, this animated design features the crumpled face with mouth movements that mimic the original. Lovers of Potter – no matter their age – will love finding out whether they belong in Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin, or Ravenclaw.

We also should mention that this hat has the same gruff voice and snippy wit of the “character” we know and love from both the book series and the movies.

With Halloween around the corner, this cool accessory will make the perfect addition to a themed party or costume. The hat joins a wonderful line of other Potter merch at Target, including clothing, bedding, drinkware, toys, costume gear, and the all-powerful Nimbus 2000.

Previously, the Sorting Hat experience could only be felt at Universal Studios theme park where visitors could find out their fate at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Years ago, the hats were exclusively available through the park.

It is a treat that these items are now out in the world for the rest of us Muggles to enjoy, but for those of you who are clueless about the Sorting Hat and what makes it so magical, let us break it down. In the Harry Potter books, this particular object is a few centuries old, possibly 1,000 years.

That explains the weathered look. Originally, the founders of Hogwarts sorted students to corresponding houses, but to prepare for their deaths, they created the Sorting Hat. When a student is welcomed into Hogwarts, the hat is placed on their heads and digs into their minds.

The process is less of a mind-reading thing and more of character read to figure out which house will suit them best. If you are familiar with the story, then you know that the villain, Voldemort was a Slytherin. The boy hero, Harry, was vocal about not wanting to go to Slytherin himself, and that request was granted.

It was asserted that the hat rarely made a mistake (if ever), but the point is sometimes argued. The Sorting Hat is also notorious for singing a new song each school year.

With all that in mind, the idea of pretending to be sorted by this magical, enchanted relic is sure to please both young and old fans. There’s quirkiness, silliness, and plain old fun to be had with this toy.

You can check out the goods by visiting your local Target or the store’s website.
