British supermodel Georgina Cooper has tragically died at the age of 46 on a Greek island just months after she married. Georgina Cooper, a mother of one, was with her new husband, Nigel, on the Greek island of Kos when she became seriously ill. She was first admitted to the island’s main hospital, but due to the severity of her condition, doctors arranged for an air ambulance to transfer her to Crete, where better medical facilities were available. Despite intensive care treatment there for five days, she sadly passed away. Her body was flown back to England last week.
Her former agent, Dean Goodman spoke to The Daily Mail: ‘She loved Greece and told me that she was going back with her new husband – but she has tragically died there a fortnight ago.
“Georgina had been unwell during Covid and had developed some health problems and had been in and out of hospital. But she had plans for the future. She had just married and was looking forward to her life. Everybody is devastated. She was a genuine superstar.”
Her friend Erin O’Conner posted a tribute to her beloved friend on Instagram on November 8.
“Gorgeous George…. Shocked and devastated to hear you are gone. You were an incredibly kind and funny human-being, Georgina. I/we all admired and loved you so much for the warmth, generosity and gentle mischief you brought to the world. Many years have passed since we (our little 90’s britannia pack) hung out together during the mad carousel era known as ‘show season’ – but you ALWAYS stuck out to me for keeping it real and being proud of who you were. What an almighty life you led.. Full of spirit and endless, inspiring humility. You will never be forgotten.Phenomenal woman, wife, daughter, mum and friend; my thoughts are with your family, especially your beautiful boy.Hugs and condolences to all..RIP brave heart🌹💔🕊️✨”
She was discovered by a modeling agency at just 13, and Cooper’s career took off with her first major break at 15, when she appeared in a Bon Jovi music video. She quickly rose to prominence as one of the defining faces of the 1990s, earning the title of London’s “original gap-toothed girl.” Cooper became a muse for acclaimed photographer Corinne Day and collaborated with some of the biggest names in fashion, gracing the covers of iconic magazines like US Vogue and The Face.
Georgina Cooper was a famous British supermodel and a key figure in the ‘Cool Britannia’ movement of the 1990s. The movement celebrated British music, fashion, and culture on a global stage. Known for her striking looks and effortless style, Cooper became a defining presence in the fashion world, walking the runways for top designers and frequently appearing in high-profile fashion magazines. Her influence extended beyond modeling as she embodied the edgy, rebellious spirit of the era, aligning with other prominent figures like Kate Moss, with whom she shared a close friendship.
Cooper was known to friends as “George.” Recently, she stepped away from modeling to dedicate herself to raising her son, Sonny. Her last position was in the hospitality industry.
Rest In Peace.
