‘Smallville’ Actress Allison Mack Prepares For Sentencing For Her Role In Sex Cult

Actress Allison Mack may be best known for her role in the TV series “Smallville,” but now she is in the public eye for something else – her role in a sex cult called NXIVM.

Mack would recruit women into the cult by pretending that it was a self-help group about female empowerment. The truth was far different. In reality, they would become slaves of Keith Raniere, the group’s leader.

In October, Raniere was sentenced to 120 years in prison. In 2019, Mack pled guilty to her part in the cult. She has been under house arrest for 3 years, but now, it is time for sentencing.

Federal prosecutors asked the judge to go easier on Mack’s sentence than on Raniere since she cooperated in the case against Raniere. She met with the government multiple times and was prepared to testify if they called her to the stand, which they didn’t.

Mack wrote a letter to the court explaining, “I am sorry to those of you that I brought into Nxivm. I am sorry I ever exposed you to the nefarious and emotionally abusive schemes of a twisted man. I am sorry that I encouraged you to use your resources to participate in something that was ultimately so ugly.”

Now, a federal judge has come to a decision about Mack’s sentencing. She has been sentenced to 3 years in jail and a $20,000 fine. On Twitter, many people think this sentence is way too light for what she did.

Do you think Mack’s sentence should have been harsher? If so, how many years in jail do you think she should’ve been sentenced to?
