Robotic Engineer Proves That Skirts and Heels Are Not Just For Women

Mark Bryan has been married for 11 years. He has a daughter. He is not gay. He simply chooses to dress is an unconventional way.

Bryan is an American who currently lives in Germany. He is a robotic engineer, and he doesn’t believe in fashion stereotypes.

Bryan doesn’t like how limited men are in their selection of office attire. Men’s pants only come in a few color and cut options, mostly black, gray, dark blue, possibly a pinstripe.

Bryan wants more variety in his wardrobe. He believes that if women can wear pants, men should be able to wear skirts and dresses. He likes how skirts come in different styles and patterns such as florals and animals prints.

He told Bored Panda, “I am old enough to remember that in school, the girls could not wear pants. Pants have now become a non-gendered article of clothing. So why can’t skirts and heels be non-gendered? Besides, men wore heels before women did. Maybe not today’s stiletto-style heels, but men did wear heels before women.”

Personally, Bryan prefers to mix traditional gender looks by traditionally wearing masculine attire on top and traditionally feminine attire on the bottom half. Often, that means he wears a button down shirt or a polo shirt with a pencil skirt and 4” heels. He explained, “To me, clothes have no gender. I prefer skirts to dresses. Dresses don’t allow me to mix the genders. I prefer a ‘masculine’ look above the waist and a non-gendered look below the waist. It’s all about clothes having no gender.”

Bryan is a pro at wearing high heels. It all started when his college girlfriend wanted him to wear high heels when he was dancing with her so that they were both dancing in heels. They danced that way for over a year.

He likes the powerful feeling high heels give him, and he doesn’t mind the odd looks he sometimes gets from people he meets. He compares it to someone who has green hair.

Bryan told Bored Panda, “Take a person with bright green hair. Green hair is not normal. You look up and see this person, your mind tells you it’s a person with green hair, you think to yourself, that’s odd or interesting, then you go back to do what you were doing and don’t give it another thought. I believe this is the same when people see me in a skirt and heels.”

It isn’t hard for Bryan to find skirts and heels that fit him. He is an average size 8 when it comes to skirts, and he has small feet for a man. His shoe size is 8.5.

If you’re a man who is considering trying out the heels and skirts looks, Bryan suggests starting with a low heel until you feel more confident walking in a higher heel. As far as skirts, he says to just do it.

What do you think of Bryan’s mixed gender style? Do you think skirts and heels should be considered genderless in the same way pants aren’t gender specific?
