A Number of Skippy Peanut Butter Jars Have Been Recalled

Peanut butter is one of our favorite foods. It is so delicious in so many different ways – spread it on toast, bake it in a recipe, eat it out of the jar. We won’t judge.

If you like peanut butter as much as we do, you probably have a jar on hand at all times. If you happen to buy Skippy peanut butter, go get that jar out of the pantry because there’s an important recall you need to know about.

Skippy has issued a recall for 9,353 cases of peanut butter. According to Skippy, that is a relatively small amount of peanut butter, and only three types of their peanut butter are affected: Skippy Reduced Fat Peanut Butter Spread, Skippy Creamy Peanut Butter Blended with Plant Protein, and Reduced Fat SUPER CHUNK® Peanut Butter Spread. The company stresses that no other varieties of peanut butter are included in the recall.

If you have any other type of peanut butter, you do not need to worry about this recall.

If you happen to have a jar of Skippy Reduced Fat Peanut Butter Spread, Skippy Creamy Peanut Butter Blended with Plant Protein or Reduced Fat SUPER CHUNK® Peanut Butter Spread, keep reading to find out how to know if your jar is included in the recall.

The first thing you need to do is look at the UPC code on the jar. If it is one of the following UPC codes, it may be part of the recall: 37600-10520, 37600-10667, 37600-10499, or 37600-88095. These are the only UPC codes affected by the recall.

If you see one of the above UPC codes on your jar of peanut butter, next, you need to look at the top of the jar’s lid. This is where you will see the product’s best buy date. If your product and best buy date matches one of the best buy dates below, it is part of the recall:

  • Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread 40oz with a UPC code of 37600-10520 and a best if used by date of MAY0423 or MAY0523
  • Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread Club pack 2/40oz with a UPC code of 37600-10667 and a best if used by date of MAY0523
  • Reduced Fat SUPER CHUNK® Peanut Butter Spread 16.3oz with a UPC code of 37600-10499 and a best if used by date of MAY0623 or MAY0723
  • Peanut Butter Blended with Plant Protein 14oz with a UPC code of 37600-88095 and a best if used by date of MAY1023

If you have one of these jars of peanut butter, you can take it to the store where you bought it to exchange it for another jar that is not part of the recall, or you can call Skippy’s customer service line at 1-866-475-4779 between the hours of 8am and 4pm Central Time. 

So far, no customers have complained about the peanut butter, but Skippy is issuing the recall as a precaution due to the fact that the jars may contain small pieces of stainless steel.
