Simone Biles Admits That She’s ‘Still Scared Of Gymnastics’ in Recent Interview
Over the summer, the world was shocked when gymnast and Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles pulled out of one event after another. At first, it seemed that maybe she was injured, but it turned out the injury was not a physical one. Instead, she pulled out of the Olympic events because of her mental health.
Biles was suffering from a case of “the twisties” where she couldn’t tell where she was in the air when she was twisting. This could lead to major injuries, and Biles didn’t want to risk getting hurt.
In an interview on TODAY, Biles discussed how she’s doing now, and among other things, she admitted to Hoda Kotb that she is “still scared of gymnastics.” She explained that it’s been very difficult because she loves gymnastics yet she can’t do a lot of things anymore.
The gymnast explained, “To do something that I’ve done forever and just not be able to do it because of everything I’ve gone through is really crazy because I love this sport so much.” She added, “It’s hard. I’m sorry. And I don’t think people understand the magnitude of what I go through, but for so many years to go through everything that I’ve gone through having a front, I’m proud of myself.”

Biles also exclusively told TODAY that she is partnering with Cerebral to help others with their mental health. Cerebral is a mental health and telemedicine app, and Biles is the chief impact officer for the company.
Biles explained on TODAY that even though things didn’t go as planned at the Tokyo Olympics, “I wouldn’t change anything for the world. I think everything happens for a reason.”
Do you think Biles will ever stop being “scared of gymnastics”?
