Sometimes it’s hard to make ends meat, and if you’re struggling to pay the bills, it can be extremely helpful if you have family members who you can count on to lend a hand, or a bag of groceries.

One woman shared in a Reddit post that she was willing to help her older sister when her sister told her she didn’t have enough money for groceries. The problem was that the sisters disagreed on an acceptable form of help.

The older sister wanted her younger sister to loan her $40, but the younger sister knew it wouldn’t really be a loan. That wasn’t the problem though. She would’ve been fine with giving her sister $40 for food accept for the fact that she barely had enough money to scrape by until her next payday, and she wasn’t 100% sure if her sister would use the money to buy food.

The younger sister had another idea. She offered to buy a few things from the Dollar Store for her sister.

You’d think that this offer would be generously accepted. The younger sister sure thought that would be the case or she wouldn’t have offered.

Even though the older sister was desperate for help buying groceries, apparently the Dollar Store was beneath her. She was insistent on having ground beef so that she could make meatloaf, and she didn’t trust the quality of the meat at the Dollar Store.

The younger sister refused to splurge on ground beef for her older sister, so it seemed like there was no resolution. That is, until the younger sister shared an update.

While the older sister is estranged from their father, their father still generously agreed to give her $40. The older sister even showed the younger sister the grocery store receipt, proving that she used the money to buy ground beef to make meatloaf.

This whole situation still left the younger sister wondering if she was a jerk for offering to buy food from the Dollar Store instead of just giving her sister $40 like she wanted.

In the comments on Reddit, the majority of people didn’t think there was anything wrong with offering to buy Dollar Store food for the older sister. In fact, many of the commenters felt that the younger sister was being generous and the older sister was acting entitled.

Have you ever bought food at the Dollar Store? Would you be offended if someone gave you food from the Dollar Store?
