What to Expect From Your Manicure or Pedicure As Salons Begin to Reopen

When was the last time you got a mani pedi? Chances are, it has been months.

Before the coronavirus pandemic, going to a nail salon was a relaxing experience that left our fingernails and toenails looking gorgeous. When non-essential businesses closed, we had to figure out how to get the same look ourselves.

Perhaps you’ve ignored your nails. Perhaps you’ve discovered easy ways to give yourself a beautiful manicure at home. Perhaps you’ve already made an appointment at a nail salon.

In the age of COVID-19, it’s important to take precautions before rushing out to a salon. Even though your nails are screaming to be buffed and polished, you want to make sure that you choose a salon wisely and weigh the risk.

While it’s impossible to stay 6 feet away from the person who is doing your mani pedi, salons have gone to a great deal of trouble and expense to ensure the safety of their employees and their clients. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released guidelines for nail salons to follow, and these changes will make your next mani pedi experience a little bit different.

What can you expect? Some nail salons have spaced out their chairs while others have installed partitions and started using disposable tools. When you visit your favorite nail salons, you can expect to see fewer clients at one time and some sort of plastic (plexiglass or a clear curtain, for example) separating you from other clients and employees. Employees and clients will also be required to wear face masks.

Watch the video below to hear from some salon owners about how they have updated their nail salons to keep everyone as safe as possible.

Some people who have watched this video think that even with the precautions salon owners are taking the risk isn’t worth it. One viewer commented, “Definitely no , no matter how many walls you create between , you still touch hand to hand.”

Are you going to get a mani pedi in the near future? Do you think precautions like partitions and spaced out chairs are enough to keep you and the salon employees safe?
