Martina Navratilova is considered one of the world’s greatest tennis players of all time. Some of her achievements include nine Wimbledon titles, 59 Grand Slam titles and being ranked No. 1 in the world for 332 weeks. In 2000, she was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Recently, she has been working as a TV tennis analyst.
On Monday, the tennis legend said she was diagnosed with both throat and breast cancer after finding a lump on her neck two months ago. She had noticed an enlarged lymph node in her neck. A biopsy showed early stage throat cancer. While undergoing tests on her throat, she said, the unrelated breast cancer was found.
“This double whammy is serious but still fixable, and I’m hoping for a favorable outcome,” the 66-year-old Navratilova said. “It’s going to stink for a while but I’ll fight with all have I got.”
She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010. She had an operation to remove the cancer cells and received radiation treatments.
Her treatment is expected to start later this month.
