The rock band Guns N’ Roses is in the middle of a world tour which includes stops in the Middle East, Europe and North America. The tour kicked off in the Middle East on June 1st and made it’s way through Europe and over to North America in August.
The band was scheduled to perform in St. Louis on September 9th, but that tour date was canceled with short notice. The day before the show was set to take place, the band posted a statement on Instagram that reads, “Gunners, the concert scheduled for St. Louis on September 9 has been postponed due to illness. Hang on to your tickets – fans who are unable to make the rescheduled date will be eligible for a refund. Thank you for the support.”
The post didn’t mention who was sick or what the illness was, which left fans filling the comments section with questions and speculation, many assuming the band’s lead singer, Axl Rose, was the one who was sick. One comment reads, “Obviously Axl is sick… get well soon.”
The band’s lead guitarist, Slash, shared the announcement on his Instagram, but Axl did not. Perhaps that’s why fans are assuming he’s the one who is sick.
The band is scheduled to perform on September 12th in Knoxville, Tennessee. According to the band’s website, that show is still scheduled to go on, while the St. Louis show is marked as “postponed.”
Some fans joked that the reason the St. Louis show was canceled was because Axl had “post traumatic vibes from St. Louis.” Back in 1991, when the band was performing in St. Louis, Axl got upset when he saw a fan in the crowd with a camera. He jumped into the audience to confront the fan and ended up leaving the show early because he was so upset. Reportedly, with his mic still on, he said, “Thanks to the lame-ass security, I’m going home!”
Axl’s early exit resulted in a riot that led to 65 injuries and multiple arrests.
Billboard also assumes the show was canceled because of Axl, but they assume it has nothing to do with PTSD and everything to do with his health. The publication shared that at the New York show on September 1st, Axl was experiencing some vocal issues. After the show, he wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “My apologies I was a little horse .. Fun night, Great Crowd!! Great Venue!! N’ great to be back!! Again my apologies and thank you!!”
