Country singer Morgan Wade has decided to have a preventative surgery after she received some concerning news. Wade told Page Six that she has a mutation of the RAD51D gene which can increase a person’s chance of developing certain types of cancers.
On Instagram, Wade explained, “Women with a #RAD51D mutation have about a 10-20 percent lifetime risk for ovarian, fallopian tube or primary peritoneal cancer (these three cancers and their risks are related and are often referred to together as ovarian cancer). Women with a #RAD51D mutation have about a 20-40 percent lifetime risk for breast cancer with a tendency for triple-negative breast cancer.”
In order to reduce her risk of cancer, Wade has made the decision to have a double mastectomy as a preventative measure. The surgery is schedule for November of this year. She told Page Six, “I’m going really hard up until November so then November and December I have off to rest.”

Wade feels confident about her decision, and she is mentally prepared for surgery. There’s only one thing that upsets her. She explained, “I’m just pissed I won’t be able to work out because I really like working out.” She added, “That’s my only qualm about it.”
Wade found out about the mutation in 2022 when she was on tour in Europe. She said, “My mom had it, and my little cousin is going to get it, but I’ll be fine.”
Some of Wade’s fans and followers have spoken out against Wade’s decision to have this preventative surgery, but Wade isn’t going to be talked into changing her mind. On Instagram, she clapped back, “to those of you who are upset (I don’t understand why) that I am taking preventative measures – please don’t waste your time. I want a long healthy life. That’s why I’m doing this.” She explained, “I am not excited to chop off parts of my body. I am not excited to be laying in a bed for a bit recovering. But I am happy to know that after November I will have peace of mind.”
