Irish actor Ray Stevenson has died. He is best known for roles in films including “Thor” and “RRR” and TV series including “Rome” and “Vikings.” His representative confirmed his death but did not include a cause of death. He was 58 years old.

While a cause of death has not been confirmed, Syfy.com reports that he was filming a project on the island of Ischia when he was hospitalized and died.

Stevenson was born on a British army base in Northern Ireland. His father was in the British Air Force. He grew up in Lemington, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England, and later in Cramlington, Northumberland.

At 25, he decided to try acting, and he launched his career in the 1990s. His first acting credit was back in 1993 for the TV series “A Woman’s Guide to Adultery.” His most recent credit was in 2022 for “Accident Man: Hitman’s Holiday.”

Upon hearing the news of his death, many of his former colleagues have posted tributes. DC Studios co-Chief Executive James Gunn tweeted, “So sorry to hear about the passing, far too young, of Ray Stevenson. I only knew him a little from shooting post-credits of Thor 2 & a couple interactions at events, but we had some good laughs & he was a joy to work with.”

Actor Scott Adkins tweeted, “I’m shocked and saddened by the tragic news that a great actor and my good friend Ray Stevenson has passed away. I will miss you Big Ray! Life is short so make the most of it people.”

In 1997, Stevenson married actress Ruth Gemmell. They later divorced in 2005. During their marriage, they had three children,
