David Murphey, a reality-TV star best known for his role on 90 Day Fiancé, has passed away at the age of 66. His family shared the sad news on Instagram on Wednesday, announcing that Murphey died on December 11.

“We are deeply saddened to announce that David Murphey, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away at home on December 11, 2024 after experiencing health issues over the last several years. He was 66 years old.”
“David was a veteran, small business owner, and software engineer. He had recently retired from the Clark County Treasurer’s office in Nevada, having also worked for H&R Block and IGT. He was also well known for his time as a cast member on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days. His time on the show allowed him to connect with viewers, see the world, and share his experiences with his thousands of followers on Instagram. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and fans. David has survived by his two sisters and his cat Gamera. The family asked for privacy during this difficult time.”
A spokesperson for Clark County, Nevada, informed TMZ that the reality TV star passed away due to heart-related issues, including cardiac arrhythmia and hypertensive cardiovascular disease. The spokesperson noted that David also had a history of pulmonary embolism, a condition where a blood clot in the lungs causes a blockage. Based on these findings, his death has been classified as natural.
Back in a March 2023 Instagram update, Murphey mentioned he had spent three months in and out of the hospital, with doctors unable to diagnose his condition. He revealed that he was experiencing liver failure and complications involving his pancreas and kidneys.
David Murphey joined TLC’s reality-dating franchise in 2020, appearing on the fourth season of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days. The show documents international couples who start their relationships online and meet in person for the first time.
During his time on the show, Murphey pursued a relationship with a Ukrainian woman named Lana, to whom he eventually became engaged. The couple had been seeing each other for seven years. Then, the couple later split. In an April 2022 episode of the spinoff series 90 Day Diaries, Murphey revealed that their relationship ended after Lana refused to delete her profiles on various dating websites per PEOPLE.
“She thought that, ‘Well, now that we’re engaged, now you can help me do the things that you promised,’ like, get her some English lessons, actually move her into an apartment. But part of my conditions for doing that was to get her off the [dating] website and she didn’t get off the websites, so I didn’t offer any of those bonuses, so four months into our engagement, we just stopped communicating,” David said.
