Popular Former Fox And CNN News Personality Passed Away

CNN and Fox newscaster, Lou Dobbs, passed away on July 18. He was 78.

No further details have been revealed about his cause of death.

A message posted on Dobbs’ X account verified his death.

“It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of ‘the great Lou Dobbs.’ Lou was a fighter til the very end — fighting for what mattered to him the most, God, his family and the country,” the statement read. “Lou’s legacy will forever live on as a patriot and a great American. We ask for your prayers for Lou’s wonderful wife Debi, children and grandchildren.”

Lou Dobbs began his career in broadcasting in 1969 but gained popularity after joining CNN in 1980, shortly after its launch. At CNN, he played a crucial role in shaping the network’s financial news coverage. He was the founding anchor of “Moneyline.” a nightly business  program that provided information about economic and financial issues. “Moneyline” eventually morphed into “Lou Dobbs Tonight.”

Over time, Dobbs’s focus shifted from purely financial news to broader political news. He became increasingly vocal about his views on immigration, globalization, and trade policies. His outspoken stance on these issues earned him both a devoted following and criticism. Dobbs was a believer in stricter immigration controls.

In 2009, Dobbs left CNN once again, this time permanently. His departure was seen as a response to more pressure from advocacy groups and advertisers who were critical of his views on immigration.

In 2010, Dobbs joined the Fox Business Network, where he hosted “Lou Dobbs Tonight.” The show continued his blend of financial news and political commentary, and Dobbs remained a vocal supporter of conservative policies. During his time at Fox, Dobbs became one of the most prominent media figures to support Donald Trump, both during his 2016 presidential campaign and throughout his presidency.

Dobbs’s career was marked by numerous controversies. His strong opinions on immigration led to accusations of racism and nationalism. Additionally, Dobbs was a prominent promoter of various conspiracy theories, including false claims about voter fraud. These claims, and others, contributed to his show’s cancellation by Fox News in February 2021. The decision was seen by many as part of a bigger effort by Fox to distance itself from the more extreme elements of its programming.
