Famous TikTok star Jainer Moisés Pinedo Vargas passed away on August 18 due to complications from dengue fever (a viral infection spread from mosquitoes to humans). He was 34.

Vargas is known as the ‘Dancing Engineer.’ According to an ENews and Peru21

“This patient arrived with a diagnosis of dengue; however, during his evolution and up to his care at the Almanzor Aguinaga Asenjo hospital, he was diagnosed with pleural effusion and respiratory failure and, upon entering the ICU, they confirmed that he had a diagnosis of Hodgkin’s lymphoma,” Deputy Minister of Public Health of the Ministry of Health Ricardo Peña Sánchez stated to  Peru 21 in a statement translated from Spanish. “The patient had a neoplastic underlying disease and that probably explains the fatal outcome.”

The ‘Dancing Engineer’ probably contracted the illness while he worked in  the Condorcanqui province of Peru; his death is still under investigation.

“Dengue fever is an illness spread by the bite of mosquitoes infected with one of the dengue viruses: per The Cleveland Clinic. “Symptoms are usually flu-like but can worsen to severe dengue (dengue hemorrhagic fever), a life-threatening condition. Getting infected a second time increases your risk of serious symptoms. You can get vaccinated if you’ve already had dengue once.”

Vargas’ became more ill when he caught pneumonia which led to his hospitalization. The doctors decided to transfer him when fluid was found in his lungs, he moved to a bigger hospital in Chiclayo. By August 14, Vargas was put on mechanical ventilation. He died when he had a respiratory arrest from fluid re-accumulating in his lungs.

The Health Deputy Minister Ricardo Peña told Peru21 that testing indicated that Vargas had Hodgkin’s lymphoma. “It is most likely that this underlying disease is linked, precisely, to this outcome,” Peña told the outlet.

The ‘Dancing Engineer’ is a forest engineer. He started posting to Tiktok in 2021. Vargas’ most popular work is for the song “No Se.” The dancer has over 53,000 followers on Instagram and 200,000 TikTok followers.
