British actor Kenneth Cope was best known for his roles in TV series “Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased),” Coronation Street” and the “Carry On” films. Now, The Guardian reports that Cope has died at the age of 93.
According to a statement from Sandra Chalmers, Cope’s former agent at Artists Partnership, “Ken passed away yesterday peacefully in his sleep with his wife and family by his side.”
IMDB lists Cope’s cause of death as “natural causes” and shares that he died on September 11, 2024, inS outhport, Merseyside, England, UK.
In the statement from Chalmers, Cope’s family describes the late actor as “an incredible icon of British TV and film.” They add that his impressive career spanned six decades and that he “contributed to some of the most iconic moments in British culture.” They also called him “a natural comedy actor.”

Cope was a comedy actor who was born and raised in Liverpool. He started his career in the theater before transitioning to film and TV.
In 1994, Cope told the PA new agency that he enjoyed working on “Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased).” He described those days as “happy times” and explained, “I used to think people liked it because they were happy times when we made it. The sun was always shining.”
Cope continued, “As a kid you wanted to be Superman, you wanted to be able to do things, to find the magic stone and rub it and a genie would appear. Randall and Hopkirk was quite escapist. There was a nice guy there who could do magical things.”

Before “Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased),” Cope starred as Jed Stone on more than 100 episodes of the soap opera “Coronation Street.” Upon learning the news of Cope’s death, a spokesperson for “Coronation Street” shared, “Kenneth’s portrayal of Jed Stone, also known as Sonny Jim, on Coronation Street between 1961 and 1966 made him a firm favourite with the soap’s fans.”
The spokesperson added that Cope “was a talented actor and writer and we were delighted when he agreed to reprise the role 42 years later in 2008. We are sorry to hear of his passing and our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
