Tony Todd, the iconic actor renowned for his roles in Candyman and Final Destination, has passed away at 69. His cause of death has not been revealed.
According To Fox News Digital, Todd’s representative said “Regretfully, I can confirm that my friend and client of over 30 years, Tony Todd, has passed away on Wednesday November 6, 2024, peacefully at his home in Marina Del Rey.”
“I am lucky to have been able to work with this amazing man and I will miss him every single day.”
Tony Todd, born on December 4, 1954, in Washington, D.C., captivated audiences with his unforgettable presence and commanding performances across film, television, and stage. He became an iconic figure in horror cinema, gaining widespread recognition with his portrayal of Daniel Robitaille, the titular character in Candyman (1992). Candyman was adapted from Clive Barker’s short story “The Forbidden,” and Todd’s haunting performance as the vengeful spirit elevated the character to cult status. He also played the character in the 1995 and 1999 sequels, as well as a cameo in the 2021 Candyman sequel by Nia DaCosta.
Beyond Candyman, Todd’s work spanned numerous other projects in horror and beyond. He starred in Final Destination (2000) and several of its sequels as William Bludworth, a mysterious mortician who foreshadows the fates of those who cheat death. The actor appeared in The Crow (1994) as Grange, alongside Brandon Lee, and took on significant roles in other films, such as Platoon (1986) and The Rock (1996).
In addition to film, Todd was a notable figure on television, with appearances in popular series like Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, where he portrayed both Klingon and human characters. He also appeared on X-Files, 24, and Chuck, showcasing his skill in both dramatic and action-oriented roles. Todd’s stage work was equally commendable. He performed in a variety of productions, including Shakespearean roles.
Todd is survived by his wife, Fatima, and his two children, Alex and Ariana.
