Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan have officially called it quits. A source confirmed to PEOPLE that the couple has decided to part ways after roughly a year of dating, citing their demanding careers as the primary reason.
“They are both young and career-focused, so they’ve decided to take a break,” shared an insider close to the pair. Carpenter, 25, and Keoghan, 32, first sparked dating rumors in December 2023 when they were spotted enjoying dinner together in Los Angeles.
The duo’s romance reportedly began after crossing paths at Paris Fashion Week in September. Both attended a Givenchy show, and their chemistry quickly became evident. From there, their relationship blossomed, with Keoghan regularly supporting Carpenter at major events and leaving sweet comments on her social media posts.
Keoghan, known for his Oscar-nominated performances, was even spotted cheering on Carpenter during her Coachella set this past April. He later played a key role in her “Please Please Please” music video, released in June.
Carpenter opened up about casting Keoghan for the music video during an interview with CBS Sunday Morning. “I was like, ‘Who’s the greatest actor that I can find for this music video?’ And he was next to me in a chair,” she joked. According to Carpenter, Keoghan was enthusiastic about the project from the start.
Keoghan, for his part, has also praised Carpenter’s work ethic. Following the announcement of Carpenter’s six Grammy nominations, including a nod for Song of the Year, Keoghan couldn’t hide his admiration. Appearing on The Jess Cagle Show, he expressed his pride: “Brilliant, I know. Absolutely brilliant. Feckin’ brilliant, lads.”
“I’m really, really happy for her, honestly,” he added. “I don’t know anyone who works as hard. I’m in awe watching her work and how committed she is, especially being on that music video. She knows the vision. She knows what she wants.”
Despite their breakup, the split seems amicable, with both stars focusing on their individual careers. Carpenter continues to dominate the music scene, while Keoghan’s acting career is thriving, including his standout role in Saltburn.
Fans of both Carpenter and Keoghan are hopeful that their mutual respect and admiration will keep them supportive of each other, even if their romantic relationship has ended.
