Police Officer Faces Backlash After She Portrays A Stripper In Rap Video

A NYPD detective from the Special Victims Unit has sparked controversy after being featured in a provocative hip-hop music video, according to DailyMail.com. Detective Melissa Mercado, who serves in the Bronx and investigates cases of sexual violence, appears in the video for rapper S-Quire’s song Doin That. In the footage, she is seen crawling across a strip club dance floor, dressed in a skimpy bra and G-string, while being showered with dollar bills and engaging in suggestive movements. The video has since gone viral, raising concerns over her conduct and also her personal liberties.
In the video, S-Quire raps explicit lyrics referencing 28-year-old Mercado engaging in questionable acts. She is seen giving him a personal lap dance before transitioning to a scene where she is sprawled out on a bed in an apartment. While her identity isn’t explicitly mentioned in the video, fellow NYPD officers quickly recognized her earlier this week, sharing the footage among themselves with amused remarks as her peers shared the video with each other.
S-Quire, a hip-hop artist from Hempstead, Long Island—whose real name is Phabian Winfield—claimed he was unaware of Mercado’s profession until DailyMail.com reached out to him late Tuesday.
‘I didn’t know what she did for a living,’ he said to Daily Mail. ‘She doesn’t seem like a detective. When you think of detectives, you think of Special Victims Unit on the TV.’
Describing her as a friend, he stated that he only knew her by her nickname, Honeybee, which also serves as her social media handle.
The music video for ‘Doin That’, released in February, has since amassed millions of views across various platforms. It has racked up 1.2 million views on YouTube, where it was shared by World Star Hip Hop, and an additional 1.1 million on S-Quire’s Instagram page.
