Australia Bride Appoints Pet Goat As Ring Bearer At Her Wedding

One of the beautiful things about planning your wedding is that it’s your wedding, and within reason, you can do whatever you want. Sure, there are typical wedding traditions, but many brides have no problem breaking the rules or modifying them to suit their individual tastes.

One example is the new trend where brides are having their bridesmaids carry cotton candy down the aisle instead of bouquets of flowers. It certainly seems like it would be hard to resist snacking on it if the wedding ceremony went on too long.

Another trend we’re seeing is brides recruiting their grandmothers to play the part of flower girl at their weddings. Yup, instead of little girls toddling down the aisle, grandma is sometimes wheeled down in her wheelchair beyond giddy to be a part of her granddaughter’s special day.

Now we’ve seen something so unusual that we can’t even call it a trend. This is probably a one-off.

Traditionally a ring-bearer is the boy version of the flower girl. A little boy walks down the aisle holding a pillow with the couple’s rings loosely stitched to it (so they don’t fall off). Sometimes instead of a child, a pet like the family dog might fill in for this special role. Now, for the first time, we’ve seen something more unusual than a dog walking down the aisle.

Rose Strong-Ramsey grew up in rural Australia on her family’s farm in New South Wales. Her parents raised goats, and she had her very own goat when she was just 3 years old. She has since taken over her family’s goat dairy business, and she takes care of about 80 goats.

When Dale Ramsey proposed to Rose, she knew she wanted goats to be a part of her wedding, but she thought it would be tacky to have a complete goat theme. Instead, after seeing a video of a dog ring-bearer, she knew the perfect way to incorporate her favorite goat, Lilly, into her wedding ceremony.

She made a sash and even a tiara for Lilly to wear down the aisle. She hooked the rings to Lilly’s sash and had one of her bridesmaids escort Lilly during her ring-bearer duties. Nobody else knew about Rose’s plans. She wanted it to be a surprise.

Rose said that “The top two compliments I got on my wedding day was how much they loved my dress and how much they loved Lilly the goat.”

Watch Lilly the goat walk down the aisle at Rose’s wedding in the video below.
