Patrick Mahomes faces heartbreaking family news ahead of the AFC Championship game. The Chiefs quarterback’s mother, Randi Mahomes, revealed on Friday that his grandfather is in hospice care, she posted the sad news as an Instagram story per The New York Post.

The announcement comes just two days before the Chiefs are set to face the Bills in Sunday’s AFC Championship game.

Randi, 49, posted a nostalgic photo of herself with her dad at an event. Along with the image, she included a series of prayer hand emojis and referenced the Bible verse Colossians 3:20, which says, “Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.”

Patrick has not spoken publicly about his grandfather’s condition and his mom has not released any further information.

Back in September of 2024, Randi posted a message about her father being hospitalized to her X account. She wrote,” Prayer warriors please pray for my daddy. He is in the hospital and is not well. His name is Randy.”

The update on Patrick’s grandfather comes just days before the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship on Sunday, January 26. A victory on Sunday would secure the Chiefs a spot in Super Bowl LIX, where they would face the NFC Champion—either the Philadelphia Eagles or the Washington Commanders.

The couple is embracing life as a family of five while the three-time Super Bowl champion pursues a third consecutive title with the Chiefs.

No NFL team has ever achieved three consecutive Super Bowl victories.
