How to Make a Wreath out of Ornaments and a Hanger

Need some Christmas decor stat? If you’re tired of your old decor or you need something to jazz up your space fast, this is the perfect project for you! Using a simple wire hanger and some Dollar Store ornaments, you can create a festive Christmas wreath in a snap.

DaveHax shows us how to take this meager hanger and turn it into something beautiful in just a few minutes, using classic Christmas decor that you probably have hanging around the home right now. If not, these are easy pieces you can pick up at the store for just a few bucks!

The trick to this DIY holiday wreath is untwisting a regular wire hanger from the top (the hook portion) and slipping ornaments onto it.

PRO TIP: If these start to wiggle around, use clear tape to keep them in place.

Make sure to vary the size of the ornaments to give the wreath some really cool dynamics! You can choose any colors you want to create your wreath; Dave used green, red, and gold for classic Christmas colors. However, you can also use blue and silver, or any other holiday colors you prefer!

Then take some shiny tinsel and wrap it around your finished wreath to give it a little pizzazz. Finish up with a holiday bow on top of your DIY wreath to (literally) tie it all together.

To hang you can use the hook of the wire hanger, which is convenient because it’s already incorporated into your wreath! However, if you don’t like the look of the metal hanger, feel free to snap it off. If you do choose to do this, tie a pie of ribbon to the wreath to then attach to a hook on your wall or your front door.

Don’t want to hang your wreath? Dave also suggests using this DIY wreath as a table centerpiece! Put the wreath right down on your dinner table and put a piece of decor (like a lantern or candle) in the center to make your table sparkle with holiday spirit.

Instructions

  1. Untwist your wire hanger and mold the wire into a circle. This will be the core of your DIY wreath.
  2. Begin putting the ornaments on your wreath by looping them onto the wire through their top hook opening. Make sure you put on a variety of colors and sizes for a diverse look.
  3. When your wreath is full of ornaments, twist the two metal ends back together to connect the wreath. Then wrap some tinsel around the wreath for extra sparkle. Tie off the wreath with a festive ribbon, if you’d like! These additions are optional.
