Favorite News Anchor Is Leaving CNN After A Decade
After more than a decade at CNN, journalist Alisyn Camerota has announced her departure from the network. The Emmy-winning anchor shared the news on Instagram, posting a photo of herself behind the news desk with the caption, “Big News, Everyone! − today is my last day on CNN.” Camerota has yet to reveal her next steps but promised to keep her followers updated.
Camerota, 58, bid farewell to CNN during her final newscast, reflecting on her incredible journey with the network. “I’ve had such incredible opportunities here these past 10+ years,” she said. “I’ve interviewed presidents, heroes, and extraordinary people—the kind of peak career experiences I had dreamed of since I was a teenager.”
Since joining CNN in 2014, Camerota has become a trusted voice in news, anchoring major programs like New Day, CNN Newsroom, and CNN Tonight. In addition to her on-air achievements, she authored two books: a memoir titled Combat Love, released earlier this year, and a novel, Amanda Wakes Up, in 2017.
Camerota expressed her gratitude to her colleagues, describing them as “the very best in the entire news business.” She also took a moment to thank her viewers. “It’s an honor to have been in your homes this past decade through some of the biggest stories of our lifetimes,” she said. “I’m always touched when a viewer comes up and tells me that I helped them get through these challenging times.”

CNN Worldwide CEO Mark Thompson praised Camerota for her exceptional work. “Alisyn is a rare talent with the ability to interview world leaders and everyday heroes with both strength and empathy,” he said. “She’s been a wonderful colleague at CNN for more than a decade, and we will be cheering her on in her new pursuits where she will surely find much success.”
Camerota’s departure follows a challenging personal year. In September, she revealed that her husband of over 20 years, Tim, had passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer. “I cannot imagine any human being soldiering through a devastating diagnosis with more humor, humility, and bravery than Tim,” she wrote on Instagram. “He was a phenomenal father, husband, friend, and role model.”
Camerota’s exit marks another change in CNN’s lineup amid other notable departures. Just weeks ago, Chris Wallace, also formerly of Fox News, announced his decision to leave the network, with plans to transition to streaming or podcasting. Earlier this year, longtime anchor Poppy Harlow also stepped away after her role was impacted by lineup shifts.
As her colleagues and viewers bid farewell, Camerota leaves behind a legacy of grace, wit, and professionalism. Fellow journalist Poppy Harlow summed it up perfectly, commenting on Instagram, “You are the definition of grace, wit, smarts, and joy.”
While her next chapter remains under wraps, there’s no doubt that Alisyn Camerota’s career is far from over.
