Netflix Releases Classic Episodes of the Beloved 90’s Game Show ‘Supermarket Sweep’

Let’s be honest. Sometimes during this pandemic, the future looks a little, well, we don’t know exactly what it looks like, and that can be disconcerting at times. While we used to enjoy looking forward to events and parties, now, we’re playing it safe and staying home.

Sometimes it’s nice to be reminded of a simpler time. A time long before COVID-19, and retro TV shows are a perfect way to revisit those times.

Do you remember the show Supermarket Sweep? The game show originally aired for two years in the 1960s and made a comeback in the 1990s. Now, you can watch 15 episodes of the show on Netflix.

In case you didn’t grow up watching the show, here’s a quick refresher on why you need to add this show to your Netflix list stat. Like we said, it’s a game show, and it starts off with the contestants answering a series of questions. Their answers earn them time to shop.

The best part of the show is watching the contestants race through the grocery store set frantically trying to fill their cart with the most expensive items before time runs out. The price of the items in each cart are added up, and the most expensive cart wins.

Fans of the show are seriously excited!

It’s seriously even more exciting than it sounds. If one season of the show isn’t enough, you can also watch two seasons on the show on Amazon Prime.

Many fans are excited about the news and even wishing for a remake.

Ask and you shall receive! ABC has a remake in the works, and “Saturday Night Live” alum Leslie Jones will be the host. In a statement last year, Jones said, “I’ve always dreamed of being on ‘Supermarket Sweep’. Seriously, I tried out for the show years ago; and after getting turned away, I knew I’d have to take matters into my own hands. Being able to bring the iconic game show back to life on ABC is my ultimate redemption story!”

Originally, ABC was planning to start filming the remake this spring and air the show during the 2020-21 season. We do not know if the pandemic has impacted filming or changed those plans, but in the meantime, you’ll find us watching Netflix.
