8 Times Neil Patrick Harris’ Family Absolutely Won at Halloween

Halloween is arguably one of the best holidays of the year. Ghosts, goblins, pumpkins galore, not to mention all the free candy your neighbors will offer you. But one of the best parts of the holiday is dressing up in a costume—especially when you’ve got a family who loves to coordinate.

Lots of celebrities are known for their unique Halloween costumestake this adorable Barbie and Ken costume from Beyonce, Jay Z and their little one for example. But there’s one famous family that continues to nail their on-point themed costume each and every year.

Since 2011, Neil Patrick Harris and his husband David Burtka have consistently come up with epic costumes that include their whole family—the two of them plus their twins, Gideon and Harper. Each year, it just gets better and better.

“We like to do a family picture every year. We have to get our kids on board,” he said.

So if you’re looking for inspiration for your own family, or just want a laugh, behold, in order, the Burtka-Harris family’s amazing Halloween costumes:

  1. Peter Pan: 2011

Second start to the right, and straight on ’til morning. Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Tinkerbell and Mr. Smee—the gang’s all here, and they look as adorable as ever! They’re just missing the crocodile.

The tin man, scare crow, lion, and Dorothy costumes could not be more on point. Seriously, which way to the Yellow Brick Road?

  6. Star Wars: 2015

As the years pass, not only do the costumes keep getting better, but so does that photography. The Star Wars theme this year was made even better with the backdrop to match. These poses are everything! (As the kids get older, we’re sure they’re loving every second of their Halloweens!)

  7. Movie Stars: 2016

Here we’ve got some old school charm happening: Charlie Chaplin, Groucho Marx, Marilyn Monroe, and James Dean. Lights, camera, action!

Neil Patrick Harris did recently drop a hint about it, exclaiming: “I’m truly excited about this one. This one was right up my alley.”
