Startling Photos Show Yellow Pollen Haze Over North Carolina

Depending on where you live, you may be experiencing pollen ravaging your sinuses, car, home, and every other place you step. If ever you wanted to compare yellow dust-covered notes, do it with these photos from North Carolina.

Since the beginning of April, the state has seen a surge in its pollen counts. These drone images were captured by photographer Jeremy Gilchrist, who was driving when he noticed a large cloud of pollen hovering above.

Gilchrist, who has experience with meteorology and storm-chasing, decided to launch his drone to get better views of what’s been deemed “pollenpocalypse.” The breezy air on Tuesday made conditions just right for pollen to scatter from trees and collect in the atmosphere.

When speaking with CNN, Gilchrist noted that seeing the dust gather that high is not a common sight. A few hours after shooting the images, a storm rolled in and cleared the haze away, but he posted the photos on social media. Check out the face in the storm cloud pic!

No tricks here. Yes you are looking at a green haze made up of tree pollen from the pines of central NC! This is…

Per the Weather Channel, tree pollen counts have been in the red “very high” zone since Monday and will remain there all week for the Durham and Raleigh areas. Grass pollen counts have been designated as “high,” so people who suffer from allergies need to be on alert. By the weekend, more rain is expected and should provide some relief.

Have you ever witnessed a coating of pollen haze such as this? Do you live in NC or another area where pollen is thick right now? Your thoughts on these photos?
