Mom Leaves Sisters Wynonna And Ashley Judd Out Of Her Will
On April 30, 2022, country singer Naomi Judd took her own life after suffering from depression for years. She died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but the real cause of death was mental illness.
Her daughter, actress Ashley Judd, discovered her mother’s body. She had the difficult job of breaking the news to the rest of her family, including her sister, Wynonna Judd, who worked side by side with her mother for years as the singing duo The Judds.
The sisters seemed to be on good terms with their mother, and they were heartbroken at her loss. Just one day after announcing her death, The Judds were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. The sisters went to the induction ceremony together and spoke on their mother’s behalf.
Considering how close the family was, many would assume that the mother would generously leave a great deal of her belongings to her only daughters. That’s why her will was such a shock. Ashley and Wynonna appeared to be left out of the will. Instead, Naomi appointed her husband, Larry Strickland, as the executor. She gave him “full authority and discretion” over her estate.
The will was prepared in 2017, and besides Naomi’s signature, it was also signed by two witnesses, Abigail Muelder and Melissa Sitzler. Both witnesses vouched that Naomi was of “sound mind, memory and understanding, and not under any restraint or in any respect incompetent to make a Last Will and Testament.”
Watch the video below for more about this surprising news about Naomi’s will.
Although the will makes it seem like Naomi didn’t leave anything to her daughters, a source told US Weekly that Ashley and Wynonna are beneficiaries to their mother’s trust. The source explained, “It is likely they will inherit money through that once it is administered.” The source added that Strickland is “administrator and head of the trust, so he really is in control of the whole estate.”
Ashley and Wynonna have not made a public comment about their mother’s will; however, a source claims that Wynonna is “upset.” Since she was one half of The Judds, she “believes she was a major force behind her mother’s success.”
Does it surprise you that Naomi Judd didn’t mention her daughters by name in her will? Why do you think she cut them out of the will? Do you think they will eventually make a public statement about their mother’s will?
