Renowned musician Darius Rucker, 57, found himself in legal trouble in Williamson County, Tennessee, as he was arrested on January 31 for a minor drug offense. The artist is fully cooperating with authorities, as stated by his attorney in response to the misdemeanor charges.
Rucker faces two counts of simple possession/casual exchange of a controlled substance and one count of violating Tennessee’s vehicle registration law, as confirmed by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office. The specific controlled substance involved in the charges was not disclosed.
Released on a $10,500 bond, Rucker is no longer in custody after being booked on the three misdemeanor charges. The circumstances leading to his arrest remain undisclosed, but reports from TMZ suggest that police allege Rucker had expired tags on his vehicle.
The Grammy-winning musician, known for hits like “Wagon Wheel,” released his latest album, “Carolyn’s Boy,” in October. Dedicated to his late mother, Carolyn, the album reflects Rucker’s personal journey and serves as a tribute to his biggest supporter.
In a statement to PEOPLE, Rucker expressed his sentiments about his mother: “She’s been gone for so long, but I still think about her every day. She was my biggest champion… I hope I’m making her proud.”
Rucker was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in December, where he acknowledged his three children, Carolyn, Daniella, and Jack. In his speech, he emphasized the profound impact his children have on his life and dedicated his achievements to them.
“Cary, Dani, and Jack are my heart, they’re my soul,” Rucker stated during the ceremony. “They’re everything to me, and everything I do is for them.”
Despite his busy career, the Hootie & the Blowfish lead singer shared in a June 2023 interview that he makes an effort to stay connected with his kids while on the road. He highlighted the convenience of phones and FaceTime, emphasizing his commitment to regular communication.
“When phones and FaceTime came into play, it made it a lot easier,” Rucker explained. “We only tour on the weekend, so it’s three days a week, and the other four days [I’m] pretty much home, so that makes it a lot easier.”
