Country star Morgan Wallen has been sentenced to seven days at a DUI education center, following his arrest for throwing a chair from the roof of a Nashville bar earlier this year.
On Thursday, Dec. 12, a Nashville judge handed down the sentence, which includes one week of incarceration at the center and two years of probation — one year for each misdemeanor charge of reckless endangerment. Wallen, 31, was also ordered to pay a $350 fine and cover court fees.
“Mr. Wallen has cooperated fully with authorities throughout these last eight months, directly communicating and apologizing to all involved. Mr. Wallen remains committed to making a positive impact through his music and foundation,” his attorney Worrick Robinson IV told PEOPLE in a statement.
Robinson added that if Wallen, 31, successfully completes his probation, “the charges could be eligible for dismissal and expungement.”
The country star was arrested on April 7 after allegedly throwing a chair from the roof of Chief’s Bar. According to court records obtained by PEOPLE, he faced three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of disorderly conduct.
On the day of his arrest, Nashville police reported that two officers were standing outside Chief’s Bar — a six-story bar and restaurant on Broadway — when they saw a chair, allegedly thrown by Wallen, fall from the rooftop to the street below.
Days after the incident, a source told PEOPLE that the I Had Some Help singer wasn’t expected to attend the bar’s opening and had spent little time there before the alleged incident.
“Morgan is generally a nice, fun person to hang out with, but when he gets going he doesn’t know when to stop,” the source said to People. “Morgan and alcohol is a problem and it’s been a problem that keeps coming back around.”
Now, a little bit more about Morgan Wallen’s background. He is an American country music singer and songwriter born on May 13, 1993, in Sneedville, Tennessee. Wallen first gained national attention in 2014 as a contestant on The Voice, where he showcased his distinctive voice and Southern charm. After the show, he signed with Big Loud Records and released his debut album, If I Know Me, in 2018. The album produced several hits, including “Whiskey Glasses” and “Up Down” featuring Florida Georgia Line, establishing Wallen as a rising star in country music.
In 2021, his second album, Dangerous: The Double Album, broke records and stayed at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for ten consecutive weeks, thanks to chart-topping singles like “Wasted on You” and “7 Summers.” His third album, One Thing at a Time, released in 2023, continued his commercial success with tracks like “Last Night.”
