Michael Jordan Pledges $1 Million to Hurricane Relief Efforts in the Bahamas

It used to be that when we thought of the Bahamas we thought of a relaxing island getaway or a cruise destination. Now, when we think of the Bahamas, we think of Hurricane Dorian, death, destruction and the incredible expense it will cost to rebuild.

Michael Jordan, the NBA legend and current owner of the Hornets, also owns property in the Bahamas, and he visits often. The destruction caused by Dorian has moved the all-star athlete so much that he plans to donate $1 million to help with recovery efforts. That should certainly help!

Jordan, who is 56, released a statement on Twitter through his manager, Estee Portnoy, saying,

I am devastated to see the destruction that Hurricane Dorian has brought to the Bahamas, where I own property and visit frequently. My heart goes out to everyone who is suffering and to those who have lost loved ones. As the recovery and relief efforts continue, I will be tracking the situation closely and working to identify non-profit agencies where the funds will have the most impact.

There are already multiple comments on this tweet with recommendations of non-profits for Jordan to contact. We’re sure he’ll do his due diligence choosing the ones that “will have the most impact.”

As Jordan said at the end of his statement,

The Bahamian people are strong and resilient and I hope that my donation will be of help as they work to recover from this catastrophic storm.

We’re sure the Bahamian people appreciate his contribution.

Did you know that Michael Jordan owns property in the Bahamas? Does it surprise you that he wants to donate to help the relief efforts? Do you have a recommendation of a non-profit where his contribution would “have the most impact”?
