We all know how to make a bed, right? Fitted sheet? Check! Flat sheet? Check! Pillowcases and comforter? Check! It’s a simple chore— so simple of a chore, in fact, a kid could do it.
Well, they might complain about it every time that you ask them to do it, but they could do it, nonetheless. But that’s beside the point…
Now, we’re not here today to double-check that you — or your kids! — have been making the bed. We’re here to tell you that you’ve been doing it all wrong!
Wait, wait! Before you roll those eyes of yours, hear us out. Is it possible that maybe, just maybe, your freshly-laundered sheets are as wrinkly as a Shar-Pei’s face?
We see you nodding your head “yes”…
Now, what if we told you that wrinkly sheets aren’t just unsightly, they also don’t make for the best night’s sleep? Think about how well you slept on your last business trip, for instance. It wasn’t because you weren’t sharing a bed with your snoring partner— though we’re sure that helped contribute to a more pleasant night’s rest! It was because the sheets you climbed into were cool, crisp, and wrinkle-free.
We’re not wrong, are we? So, how do these fine hotels achieve this level of cool, crisp, wrinkle-free zen?
After laundering the sheets, they iron them …
… but don’t worry, we would NEVER ask you to do that! We don’t like ironing our clothes, much less our sheets. So, instead, we follow a hack that’s so simple, it requires no extra steps in the overall bed-making process.
All you need to do to get crisp, cool, clean sheets is to yank them out of your dryer or off the clothesline while they are still slightly damp, give them a little shake, and attach both the fitted and flat sheets to your mattress as you do normally.
You following us so far? Good!
Once the sheets are completely dry – this should only take about 10 minutes or so – you can finish making your bed by adding your duvets, comforters, and blankets into the mix. Like we said, the trick requires no extra steps, and it even cuts a few minutes from the drying process. Cool, right?
Now, we have to admit that when we first heard about this crisp-sheet trick, we were really, really dubious. After all, wouldn’t putting damp sheets on a mattress create mold or mildew over time?
Well, if it’s done correctly, it really shouldn’t. Just make sure that the sheets are just slightly damp and your bed will be fine. Of course, if it’s something that you are particularly worried about, you can always invest in a waterproof mattress pad that’s made to wick away moisture.
Either way, you will now be enjoying a good night’s sleep so heavenly, you’d swear you were back on that restful business trip…if it wasn’t for that snoring partner beside you, of course!
What are your thoughts on this crisp sheet hack? Have you ever made your bed with damp sheets? Do you know of a similar trick for wrinkle-free linens that works better?
