Madonna Blasts Instagram For Taking Down A Picture Of Her Where Her Nipple Was Exposed

All social media sites have guidelines and policies in place to prevent people from posting content they deem inappropriate. While the policies vary from site to site, a policy preventing posts that include nudity is quite common.

One of Instagram’s policies, which the social media site refers to as community guidelines, is called “appropriate imagery.” The description of appropriate imagery explains that nudity is not allowed in photos with a few exceptions.

We don’t allow nudity on Instagram, with some exceptions, like photos of post-mastectomy scarring and women actively breastfeeding. Nudity in photos of paintings and sculptures is OK, too.”

Recently, Madonna posted a series of photos on Instagram, and she was surprised when the photos were suddenly taken down. She didn’t see anything wrong with the photos, but Instagram did. According to the site, part of Madonna’s nipple was exposed in a couple of the photos, and that violated their appropriate imagery policy.

In response, Madonna reposted the photos, this time with a heart-shaped emoji covering her nipple. Along with the photos, Madonna explained what happened. She wrote, “I’m reposting photographs Instagram took down without warning or notification….. The reason they gave my management that does not handle my account was that a small portion of my nipple was exposed.”

Madonna went on to explain how she finds it confusing that a nipple is censored when other parts of the body are not. She wrote, “It is still astounding to me that we live in a culture that allows every inch of a woman’s body to be shown except a nipple. As if that is the only part of a woman’s anatomy that could be sexualized. The nipple that nourishes the baby! . Can’t a mans nipple be experienced as erotic ??!! And what about a woman’s ass which is never censored anywhere.”

Considering Madonna reposted the pictures on Thanksgiving, she also decided to state what she was thankful for while blasting America for romanticizing the relationship between Native Americans and the Pilgrims. She wrote, “Giving thanks that I have managed to maintain my sanity through four decades of censorship…… sexism……ageism and misogyny. Perfectly timed with the lies we have been raised to believe about the pilgrims peacefully breaking bread with the Native American Indians when they landed on Plymouth Rock! God bless America.”

Do you agree with Madonna that it doesn’t make sense for the nipple to be censored when other parts of the body are not censored?
