Madame Tussauds Museum in London Has Removed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Wax Figures

If you haven’t heard the latest in royal news, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, have planned to take a ‘step back’ from being senior members of the royal family in order to seek their own financial independence.

The couple, along with their 8-month-old son Archie, plans to split their time between the United Kingdom and North America. And while they do continue to honor the Queen, the Commonwealth, and their patronages, they will simply be stepping down and doing it from afar.

In response to the news, Madame Tussauds, a wax museum in London, has since removed Meghan Markle’s and Prince Harry’s wax figures from its display.

“Alongside the rest of the world we are reacting to the surprising news that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be stepping back as senior Royals,” Steve Davies, General Manager at Madame Tussauds London, said in a statement. “From today, Meghan and Harry’s figures will no longer appear in our Royal Family set. As two of our most popular and well-loved figures they will of course remain an important feature at Madame Tussauds London as we watch to see what the next chapter holds for them.”

The figurines previously stood next to the Queen, Prince Philip, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, but Madame Tussauds felt that removing Meghan and Harry best explained their separation from the family in response to their “progressive new role within the royal institution.”

The statues were only released into the museum last year around the time of the royal wedding. Each statue costs about £150,000 ($195,000) to make.
