Security Camera Catches the Moment a Little Boy Gives Cashier an Unexpected Note

It was a day like any other for Travis Sattler. The 18-year-old was working as a cashier at Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers in Katy, Texas just minding his own business and ringing people up for their shakes and fries, when a little boy came into his line.

The boy was visibly nervous about not having enough money to buy his mini mint Oreo custard he wanted, and was fumbling around with his dollar bills before handing a small stack to Travis.

Travis counted up the money and realized the boy was a couple dollars short. But instead of telling the kid to hit the road, he did the sweetest thing: He opened up his own wallet, grabbed his credit card, and swiped it to pay for the kid’s dessert. “It’s on me,” he told him.

It doesn’t end there. The little boy’s eyes went wide and couldn’t believe this cashier would do such a thing for him. He thanked Travis, took his custard and went to eat it with his mom, and Travis continued to go about his work day.

Right before the boy left the fast-food joint, he first stopped at Travis’ register and handed him a note. When Travis opened it up, he couldn’t believe his eyes.

“Thank you for being so nice and paying for my custard. We need more people like you,” the note read. And there, folded inside, was a $100 bill for Travis.

“I was smiling for the rest of the day, I could not get over it,” Travis said. “It made my day.”

It gets even better for Travis. The franchise said it plans on giving Travis an additional $100 for his kindness.

“There is a lot of good still out there no matter what we hear,” Sattler’s boss, Padden Nelson, said. “Especially in our young folks.”

But Travis really wasn’t trying to show off or do anything to reap a reward out of it—he just wanted to make the boy happy.

“I like to think that I made a good impact on their day, and I kind of brightened it up,” he said. “Just like they did mine.”

Additionally, the fast food restaurant would like to reward the boy and mom for their kindness with gift cards to Freddy’s.

The story comes at a time when the #TipTheBill challenge is at its peak, which encourages patrons eating out to tip the entire cost of the bill—but this little boy went well beyond that. The $100 reward to the few bucks he spent on the custard was 5,000 percent tip!

It just goes to show how much a small act of kindness can do so much—this seemingly small deed to make a little boy’s day paid off for him in a big way.
