Legendary Department Store Closing Flagship Location After 111 Years Due to Uncontrollable Circumstances

Retail sales aren’t what they used to be, and many retailers have been forced to file for bankruptcy and eventually close their doors for good.
Neiman Marcus has been struggling for awhile now. The luxury department store filed for bankruptcy in 2020 during the pandemic, and in 2024, the company was acquired by a former competitor, Saks Global, the company that also owns Saks 5th Avenue.
Instead of the acquisition saving Neiman Marcus, the retailer is now facing another blow. They have no choice but to close their legendary flagship store in Dallas, Texas. This is a store that opened it’s doors 111 years ago in 1914.
A spokesperson for Saks Global told The Daily Mail, “After more than a decade of negotiations, we received a notice from a landlord to terminate our occupancy, forcing us to close the Neiman Marcus Downtown Dallas location effective March 31, 2025.”
The spokesperson added, “This location has been a beloved institution in the community for more than a century, and we are disappointed to be losing a piece of Neiman Marcus history.”
Reportedly, the merger did not cause the store closure.
Saks Global CEO Marc Metrick commented on the store closure explaining that he was “disappointed to be losing a piece of our history due to circumstances beyond our control.”
In a statement, the company explained, “Dallas is an important market for us, and we remain highly committed to upholding Neiman Marcus’ legacy there.”
The statement continued, “We see a long-term opportunity to invest in our Dallas shopping experience, and look forward to serving customers at our other locations.”
Currently, there is only one other Neiman Marcus location in Dallas, and there are only 36 more locations in total. Some of these locations will also be closing in the near future.
Metrick claims that “a handfull” of the locations will close while the rest will remain open. Only time will tell which locations will be on the chopping block.
