Lara Spencer Apologizes for Her Comments About Prince George and Dance

It’s back to school time, and while parents everywhere are feverishly buying school supplies and rushing their kiddos to class, Good Morning America host Lara Spencer is rushing to apologize for her comments about ballet and Prince George on GMA last week.

In case you missed it, Spencer was giving an update on GMA about the things Prince George will be learning in school this year. Besides the basics, his curriculum includes several things that aren’t so common in a typical school day (at least in the U.S.), and one of those subjects is ballet.

Spencer mentioned that Prince William said that Prince George loves ballet. People in the audience of the show and Spencer’s co-hosts could be heard laughing, so Spencer made a quip off the top of her head that she since regrets. She said, “I have news for you Prince William, we’ll see how long that lasts.”

Now, Spencer says she’s “horrified” at her comment. Many celebrities are too. She may not have realized it at the time, but she was making fun of boys who dance. Not cool. She has decided to officially apologize.

Today on GMA, Spencer didn’t just issue an off-the-cuff apology; she has done her research and even brought three professional male dancers on the show to explain to her how hard it was for them to pursue a career in dance.

It seems like Spencer genuinely did not intend to hurt anyone’s feelings and now realizes how hurtful her comment was. See her full apology, and her interview with Robbie Fairchild, Fabrice Calmels and Travis Wall, in the video below.

Do you know boys (or men) who love to dance? Gene Kelly is certainly one of our favorite famous dancers, and if our sons wanted to take up ballet, we would certainly encourage them.
