Why Kraft Is Recalling 36,000 Cases of Cheese Singles

The Kraft Heinz company has voluntarily recalled 36,000 cases – about 377,000 packages – of their cheese singles, as 12 News Now reports. The recall affects shipments throughout the United States and to Puerto Rico and Grand Cayman, but the widespread problem might not be what you’d expect. It has nothing to do with the food quality, but the packaging— a small piece of plastic wrapping that could be a choking hazard.

The Kraft Singles American and White American pasteurized cheese product come wrapped individually, and this particular batch has a problem where a piece of the plastic sticks to the cheese after unwrapping. As 12 News Now explains,

A piece of the thin plastic wrapper surrounding the Singles has the chance of sticking to the cheese, which could cause someone to choke, according to a statement from the Kraft Heinz company [. . .] Ten customers have reported the plastic wrapper sticking to a cheese slice, and three of those have reported choking, according to the company.

Kraft-Heinz has expressed deep regret and apologies in a statement. It looks like we’ll be running low on Kraft singles for a little while! Do you think the company did the right thing? Have your or anybody you know experienced this “choking hazard” before the recall?
