Ken Jennings’s Circumcision Quip On Jeopardy Goes Viral

The New York Post

The game show “Jeopardy!” has yet to choose a new official host to replace Alex Trebek. Currently, Ken Jennings and Mayim Bialik are taking turns in the role. Some fans hope the producers choose Jennings as the new host, and some are hoping for Bialik. After a recent quip left viewers laughing, even more fans are rooting for Jennings.

During a recent episode of “Jeopardy!,” Jennings read the answer, “Since no one had done this for 40 years, God told Joshua to get a knife & do this to male Israelites.” The first contestant to buzz in was unable to come up with the answer in time, but the second contestant to buzz in responded correctly asking, “What is circumcise?”

Jennings’ quick wit and response to this contestant has gone viral. Upon hearing the correct response, he said, “That is correct. A painful $2,000 for you!”

The contestants didn’t necessarily seem to love the joke. Their reaction was more of a cringe than a laugh, but viewers at home thought it was hilarious that Jennings made a circumcision joke, and some think this joke proves he should be the new official host of the popular game show.

How does Bialik feel about being compared to Jennings by Jennings’ fans? Turns out, she’s used to being compared, but obviously she doesn’t enjoy it. On her podcast, “Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown,” the actress and neuroscientist explained that fans tell her “exactly how they feel. Like, ‘I saw you in a magazine. I was very confused. You looked pretty.’ I get that a lot.”

Bialik also thinks it’s unfair that people have been so critical of her wardrobe on the show. She explained, “Most men wear suits when they go there, so yeah. The fact is we don’t live in a culture where I can wear a gray suit and then a blue suit, but maybe next year, we’ll see. I don’t think anyone should think about it so much, especially me.”

Who do you think should be the next permanent host of “Jeopardy!,” Jennings, Bialik or someone else? Do you think Jennings’ quip about circumcision was funny? Do you think it was funny enough to prove he deserves to host the show?
