Kelly Clarkson Opens Up About Divorce From Husband on Season Premiere of Her Show
Clarkson had a rocky summer. Sure, we all did, what with a pandemic and all, but for her, it was more complicated. In June, she filed for divorce from her husband of 7 years, Brandon Blackstock. The couple has two children together, River Rose who is 6 and Remington who is 4. Clarkson sites “irreconcilable differences” and requested joint custody of their children. Blackstock also has two children from a previous marriage, Seth and Savannah.
On the season premier of her talk show, Clarkson didn’t shy away from talking about her divorce. The 38-year-old said, “2020 has brought a lot of change also to my personal life. Definitely didn’t see anything coming that came.”

Clarkson shared that while she is usually very open about her personal life, she is not going to be as open about her divorce in order to protect her children. She explained, “I’m usually very open and I usually talk about everything, but in this case I will talk about a little bit here and there about how (the divorce) affects me personally, but probably won’t go too far into because, you know, I’m a mama bear and my kids come first.”
Clarkson and Blackstock are both children of divorce, so they know that it is important to think about and protect their children through this difficult process.
