Becoming a mom can mean a lot of different things for different people. It can be exciting and terrifying all in one. But for singer Katy Perry, she always thought there was a “disconnect” when it came time to become a mom.

However, her fiancé Orlando Bloom, who she shares 20-month-old Daisy Dove with, really helped her change that perspective. She opened up about it all to Chelsea Handler on “Dear Chelsea.” “Best decision I made in my entire life,” she told Handler. “I wasn’t very maternal and I think that probably stems from some childhood stuff.”

Bloom has an older son named Flynn, who’s now 11, so it gave Perry a better perspective into how he’d be as a father.

“I got to see what a great dad he was with his first child. So that definitely, primally influenced me — something inside of me said, ‘You, mid-30s. This man is nice. Must breed.’ He is a kind man.”

In general, she feels like Bloom has a certain aura about him that just puts everyone at ease, no matter who he’s around—and that really calms her. “I always say when he walks into the room he has this joie de vivre to him and some people ask, ‘What is this guy on?’ He’s just really got this happy, posi vibes and I’m a little bit more heady and prone to depression in some ways — and so it’s good for me to be around him because he gets me out of my head a little bit,” she said.

Overall, Perry loves being a mom, and recently shared some fun stories about Daisy on E! News. They recently took a trip to Hawaii where Daisy mooed at Mickey Mouse.

“[Daisy] saw Mickey and she thought Mickey was a cow, so she mooed at Mickey,” Perry quipped. “She went, ‘Moo, moo.’ And I was like, ‘That’s not the sound,’ but I don’t know what the sound is, actually. What is the sound that Mickey Mouse makes?”

Katy also shared that being around Orlando not only grew her desires to be a mom, but that he brings out the best in her. Additionally, besides Bloom, there was one other factor in helping Perry shift her perspective. Check out the video below to hear all about it!
