John Goodman Suffers An Injury While Filming

Actor John Goodman has reportedly sustained an injury while filming director Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s latest movie. “John Goodman experienced a hip injury,” a Warner Bros.spokesperson told PEOPLE in a statement. . “He received immediate medical attention that led to a brief delay in shooting to allow him time to recover.”

“The production resumes shooting next week following John’s full recovery,” added the spokesperson.

According to Deadline, 72-year-old John Goodman slipped while blocking a scene at the UK’s Pinewood Studios last week and was taken to the hospital. Filming was paused for two days due to the incident.

Sources told the outlet that the injury was “minor,” and Goodman is expected to return to set on Monday, March 10. The untitled project, currently in production in England, is set for release on October 2, 2026. The film’s cast also includes Tom Cruise, Jesse Plemons, and Riz Ahmed.

According to a plot synopsis on IMDb, the film centers on “the most powerful man in the world” who, after causing a disaster, embarks on a mission to prove himself as humanity’s savior. Director Alejandro G. Iñárritu is known for acclaimed films such as 21 Grams (2003), Babel (2006), Birdman (2014), The Revenant (2015), and Bardo (2022).

Goodman—who lost his home in Los Angeles’ Pacific Palisades neighborhood to a fire earlier this year—has several other projects in pre-production, including Chili Finger and Smurfs.

The star was born on June 20, 1952, in Affton, Missouri and initially he pursued a football career at Southwest Missouri State University before shifting to acting. Moving to New York in the late 1970s, he found success in theater before transitioning to film and television.

Goodman rose to fame as Dan Conner on the hit sitcom Roseanne (1988–1997, 2018), earning a Golden Globe Award for his performance. His extensive film career includes collaborations with the Coen Brothers in Raising Arizona (1987), Barton Fink (1991), The Big Lebowski (1998), and O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000). He also starred in The Flintstones (1994), Monsters, Inc. (2001), Argo (2012), and 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016).
