Iconic Singer, Songwriter, Producer, And Musician Passed Away At 73

Chris Jasper, a renowned member of the legendary music group the Isley Brothers, has passed away at the age of 73. His son, Michael Jasper, confirmed the news in a statement on Facebook on Monday, sharing that Chris had been diagnosed with cancer just two months prior.
Chris Jasper, the legendary singer-songwriter, producer, and musician was born on December 30, 1951, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a classically trained pianist who began studying music at seven. He later attended the Juilliard School of Music before earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts in composition under jazz great Billy Taylor. His deep understanding of classical music shaped his signature blend of R&B, funk, and soul.
In 1973, alongside Ernie and Marvin Isley, Chris helped transform The Isley Brothers from a vocal trio into a powerhouse self-contained band. His mastery of keyboards and synthesizers, combined with his songwriting and production talents, became the backbone of the group’s iconic hits, including For the Love of You, Between the Sheets, and Fight the Power.
Following the group’s split in 1984, Chris co-founded Isley-Jasper-Isley, where they found success with Caravan of Love, a global anthem of unity. He launched his solo career in 1987, founding Gold City Records and releasing 17 albums, including R&B and gospel projects. His music, often carrying themes of love, social consciousness, and faith, influenced generations and was sampled by artists like Whitney Houston, Tupac, Jay-Z, and Gwen Stefani.
Chris’s contributions earned him numerous accolades, including induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and a Songwriters Hall of Fame induction.
Beyond music, he was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Margie Jasper, and their three sons. His legacy will continue to inspire for generations to come.
Rest In Peace.
