FBI Reports That Human Remains Found in Florida Reserve Were Confirmed to Be Brian Laundrie

We may never know exactly what happened to Gabby Petito, the 22-year-old who was found dead in Wyoming. Cause of death was strangulation, but was her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, to blame?

It’s easy to point the finger at Laundrie, who returned to his parents house in Florida with the van he and Petito had been driving across the country, yet Petito wasn’t with him. That’s when the search for Petito began.

Laundrie never talked to the police. Instead, he disappeared from his parents’ house. His parents claimed they didn’t know anything about Petito’s disappearance, and when their son went missing, they claimed they didn’t know where he was either.

On September 17, the Laundrie family told the authorities that their son had gone to the Carlton Reserve on September 14, but he had not returned home. That ‘s when the search for Laundrie began. He had already been named a person of interest in the disappearance of Petito.

Law enforcement searched the nature reserve, and Laundrie’s dad even joined the search at one point, showing them hiking trails his son liked.

The authorities were unsuccessful at finding Laundrie, and once the nature reserve was reopened to the public, Laundrie’s mom and dad decided to search the reserve on their own. On Wednesday October 21, the couple found some of their son’s belongings including a backpack. They also found human remains. The FBI used dental records to confirm that the skeletal remains were in fact the remains of Laundrie.

The area where Laundrie’s remains were found had recently been under water. That may explain why authorities were unsuccessful at finding Laundrie.

Now that Laundrie’s remains have been found, the investigation into what happened to Petito is likely over. Neama Rahmani, a former federal prosecutor, told FOX News, “The criminal case is done. There’s no prosecuting a dead person.”

The only questions remaining are how much did Laundrie’s parents know, if anything, about what happened to Petito, and did they help their son run away? Did they give him a head start before alerting authorities of his disappearance?

Do you think Laundrie’s parents helped him escape? Do you think it’s strange that his parents were able to find his remains the first time they tried but authorities were unsuccessful in their search? Do you think Laundrie’s parents know more than they’re saying about what happened to Petito? What do you think happened to Laundrie?
