The Hidden Truth About Ozempic: Major Study of 2 Million Users Reveals the Pros, Cons, and Risks

Ozempic is a popular weight loss medication, but is it safe?
Washington University School of Medicine recently published the findings of their research that included more than 2 million people who take the medication who also have diabetes.
This research included 215,000 people who took Ozempic plus 2 million people who did not take Ozempic and instead took traditional medication to lower their blood sugar levels.
The Daily Mail reports that the results of the research showed both pros and cons to Ozempic.
Let’s start with the good news.
People who take Ozempic have a lower risk of having a stroke or heart attack. They also have a lower risk of having seizures or developing a substance use disorder. There’s even a lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
There’s also good news when it comes to mental health. People who take Ozempic are less likely to have suicidal thoughts. They are also less likely to become bulimic, to harm themselves or to develop psychotic disorders including schizophrenia.
Now let’s look at the bad news.
People who take Ozempic have a higher risk of developing arthritis. They also have a higher risk of developing nausea and vomiting. In addition, there’s an increased risk of headaches and trouble sleeping.
Even more concerning, people who take Ozempic have a higher risk of developing drug-induced acute pancreatitis which is a sudden inflammation of the pancreas. While many people recover in about a week, some people develop serious and even fatal complications. These complications include internal bleeding, organ failure, infection and sepsis.
In 2024, there were 160 deaths that are believed to be related to taking Ozempic. In one instance, a 45-year-old woman died from choking on her own vomit, and in another instance, a 22-year-old man died from nausea, vomiting and a rapid heart rate.
