Mina Starsiak is best known for renovating homes in Indianapolis alongside her mom, Karen E. Laine, on the HGTV show “Good Bones.” The show ran for eight seasons, ending in 2023, but that’s not the end of home renovating for the mother daughter duo.

PEOPLE shares that there is a spinoff of “Good Bones” coming to HGTV in which Starsiak and Laine each work on their own separate renovation projects, and neither one is in Indianapolis. Starsiak is renovating a lake house in Indiana, and Laine is renovating a beach house in North Carolina.

Another thing that makes this spinoff special is that the lake house is Starsiak’s own home along with her husband, Steve. In a promotional clip of the show, Starsiak mentioned why this lake house is so important to them personally, and in the process, she mentioned that her family has lost 3 family members over the past few years.

Starsiak explained, “The lake house is going to feel very healing for Steve because he’s lost so much.” She added, “He’s going through life the best way he can after just some really, really epic loss in a very, very short amount of time.”

What all has he lost? In 2018, he lost his mother to stomach cancer. His father fell down the stairs and died just six months later. Then in 2020, his sister died of ethanol poisoning.

Starsiak shared, “Because his time with his family was cut short, that’s really why we wanted this lake house for Jack and Charlie — really, for the long term, for the memories, for the experiences. So that’s, I think, why it’s really important to both of us.”

Jack and Charlie are the couple’s two children. Jack is 5 years old and Charlie is 3 years old.

While Starsiak and Laine’s home renovations will both be shared on the same show, they will not be filming together. In fact, the mother and daughter don’t exactly have a good relationship right now.

In October 2023, Starsiak shared, “We do not talk. We haven’t in a long time.”

She also shared that the lake house is only 35 minutes from her home in Indianapolis, and she hopes to make many family memories there. She shared, “It’s this place that I can see in my mind that’s going to be for my family, but also for my extended family to make these new, amazing memories.”

She continued, “I have so many friends that I hear tell great stories about growing up at their grandparents’ lake house and running around in the woods and building forts and just being kids, and I want that for my kids.”
