One man’s trash is another man’s treasure, right? It truly is, especially when it comes to upcycling old furniture. If you like to repurpose things, get ready for the DIY of the season: Turning an old headboard into a gorgeous, stylish and practical sitting chair for your home.

Don’t believe us? Well, believe it! The Dixie Belle Paint blog has highlighted the work of Mike Macon of Just Re-purposed in Hanceville, AL, who turned the headboard into a beautiful lounge chair.

The article has got some unbelievable before and after photos, as well as step-by-step instructions on how to make the transformation if you ever want to attempt the feat yourself. Not only is the final product such a lovely conversation piece for the home, but it also wasn’t even expensive or very time consuming to do.

It started when Macon took a king-sized headboard under his wing. The headboard was part of a unique vintage sleigh bed, and though it no longer functioned as a bed, he knew it still had some lift left. He had a vision—and he was able to master it. He turned it into a lounge chair that wasn’t only pretty, but practical to boot, with its own storage space!

So how did he do it? Macon began by taking measurements and cutting the headboard into three different pieces. He used one piece to create the back of the chair and the other two pieces for the side arms. He then added additional wooden beams for back-corner supports and a wooden platform to create a seat.

With a few coats of paint and a stylish upholstered fabric seat cover, the chair looked like something out of a magazine. It’s truly a work of art!

Macon used Dixie Belle Paint, which is high-quality chalk mineral paint, perfect for painting furniture like the headboard—there’s no waxing or sanding required when using this type of paint, so it not only looks great, but saves you time and money in the end!
