Some people want kids—in fact, it’s nearly engrained in people’s minds that having kids is just a natural step into adulthood and that everyone should want them at some point in their life. However, this isn’t the case for everyone.

One 22-year-old named Olivia has known it in her heart that she never wants to have kids. She’s felt this way all her life, and finally decided to do something about it: Get a tubal ligation, aka get her tubes tied or female sterilization. It’s a surgical procedure to ensure she never gets pregnant.

However, to her shock, when she went to her gynecologist appointment to get the procedure done, the doctor flat out refused to let her do it. Oliva reenacted the interaction she had in a TkTok video that blew up to millions upon millions of likes.

In her video, she explained the the gynecologist told her she wouldn’t do it because it’s permanent. She even told her that Mr. Right mind come along and change her mind. After some more back and forth between Oliva explaining how she doesn’t want kids and the gynecologist telling her she might want them later on in life, Oliva ended up with a brochure for an IUD.

Women who found her video couldn’t believe the encounter she had and stood by her in support.

“People need to understand NOT wanting kids!!!!!” someone posted on her video.

“i’ve always hated the “what if you meet a man” argument bc … yes … let’s make life decisions on the chance a man comes into the picture,” another wrote.

“Mr. Right is someone who also doesn’t want kids how hard is that to understand,” said another.

“It’s so frustrating to not be able to control this at any stage in your life and there should be more less painful, less invasive, more effective,” someone else sympathized.

Oliva does understand that she’s young and not married, but she also stated that she doesn’t like how even married women with kids are being denied of the same procedure. “A lot of women with several children already are being denied the procedure on the basis that they might want more, or perhaps that they might remarry and their next husband may want a child of his own,” she said.
